When pitching for business I make no apologies for stating our prices are what we are worth that is not intended as an arrogant statement just a honest and truthful one.
In our industry there is million and 1 £20-£30 merchants promising a solus distribution and many people get their heads turned on those prices but rarely does cheap and good hang out together in our industry, Leaflet Distribution is littered with cheap amateurs leading to broken promises, wasted time and money.
Professional firms may charge a bit more but you really do get what you pay for! to illustrate my point lets take a quote that we had compete with recently we were asked to match £35 per 1000 on a solus basis I replied that we can’t because it cannot be done at least not properly.
I stated that the average fit person could deliver 1000 leaflets in an 7 hour day all territory being equal.
In this case the area they wanted covering was a tough one! in that the houses were large with long driveways/gardens so the time would extend to 8hrs minimum, so in this case if we a do sum for a daily rate on that; min wage is practically £6 so £6 X 7hrs = £42, a loss of £7 and if 8hrs = £48 a loss of £13 so lots of worrying questions raise their heads there.
Firstly if it’s a professional company how can they pay someone the minimum wage and still make a profit??
If they are literally a 1 man band they are still working very hard for less than min wage, unsustainable longer term.
But the really worrying stuff for you as the paying client is
If the person is being paid less than the minimum wage (possibly illegals) firstly do you really think all your leaflets are being delivered if people are not being paid very much?.
If it is a company how sustainable and viable is the business? Answer is not very as it can’t make a profit so really won’t be around long.
Bad practices such as saying its solus but actually distributing it shared or putting more than one leaflet through single residential homes.
Bottom line is do you really want be using a company/person to do this? at the end of the day you spent out good money getting decent leaflet/material together why give it to someone that can’t afford to provide you a with proper and professional service.
Now the good news is we’re not all like that, we pride ourselves on providing a reliable and professional service because we charge accordingly not too cheap and not inflated prices the upshot being our clients get the service they expect and then some where we can.
Our prices are bespoke and tailored to each client! but generally we are pragmatic enough so the client gets value and we can operate properly as a business.
